Scientists also tend to equate their value to society according to their intellectual ability, and being accurate is therefore important. If their intellect comes up with a wrong answer, their perceived value is greatly diminished. Therefore it is difficult for them to consider that everything they have learned may be inaccurate.

Many scientists feel that to question physicalism / materialism is to question science. If you tell them that you do not believe in materialism, they take this to mean that you are not scientific.

In the years following the introduction of physicalism in the early days of science, the mechanical view of reality that was settled upon became the basis of other fields of science. All fields of science are now built on a false premise.
Most fields of science have long ago accepted the mechanical picture, and they have been building their knowledge base on that assumption for a long time. Each new finding becomes a support for a false paradigm.

Science got its views from religion
The history of science explains why science and religion tell us that our thoughts do not create our reality. To prevent bias and emotionalism from twisting results scientists developed the scientific method of ascertaining facts. The scientific method, however, was only able to ascertain physical things or physically provable phenomena.

Scientists prided themselves on being objective. Nor could physical instruments prior to the advent of quantum physics validate subjective phenomena. Thus, seeming facts collected around the central premise of a material universe composed of solid particles.
When a central premise is false, all that comes after that bottom rung is distorted. A great number of facts were harvested in this way.
