Republicans claim that retrieving sensitive government documents from Trump’s palace — basically just following our system of democratic laws — is not what it is, but is instead a witch hunt. In their next breath they make a threat that they will launch their own political investigation of the independent Department of Justice if they take control of the Senate in September — which by all definition is a witch hunt.
They are the witch hunters, and like in the inquisition, everyone with different views is a witch.

The reason why Trump has not yet been indicted and arrested is attributed to the fact that he was president and because of his criminal obstruction. There is also a pattern of those who could indict and arrest Trump neglecting to do so for various reasons, many of which are a mystery.
Our system of laws was not set up to protect us from an overthrow of the United States Government by a sitting president. The violation of separation of powers by Trump was not anticipated. Congress did not anticipate they would ever see a president who viewed the constitution as something blocking his path to autocratic rule.
The use of television to spread false and misleading information to the public as an attempt to take over the country could not have been foreseen by our founding fathers. Nor did we ever imagine anyone would actually support or vote for such an individual.
Protections were not in place for a president that used the courts for political gain and a lie campaign. And who would have thought people would actually listen only to the fake news station and support a sore loser with psychological disorders and a criminal disposition?
There are so many lines that have been crossed that were never before violated that those fighting this corruption were overwhelmed. Presidents were always honored in our country. We didn’t think that they would willfully violate their oath of office and use their sacred power for a multitude of corrupt tactics.
Trump shielded himself through use of laws that were never intended to protect a president from being charged for corruption and an assault on democracy.
Trump is going to be indicted, arrested and sent to prison, it is just going to take time. Nothing like this has ever happened in this country.

Three laws may have been violated: One, 18 U.S. Code 793, dealing with potential espionage (sharing of top-secret classified information), and two other statutes dealing with concealment and obstruction.
